Mastercard Case Competition
Nova Case Team recently partnered with Mastercard for another exciting Case Competition, showcasing the talent and presentation skills of its members. The event unfolded in three key stages.
First, a Workshop on Presentation Skills, conducted by Mastercard professionals, kicked off the competition, setting the stage for the challenge ahead.
In the second phase, members submitted their PowerPoint presentations, demonstrating innovative solutions to a real-world case provided by Mastercard.
Lastly was the Final Presentation to the Mastercard jury. Teams delivered polished presentations, impressing the panel with their dedication and strategic insights.
What distinguishes this competition is the special opportunity for the winners. Not only do they receive personalized feedback on their performance, but they also secure a highly considered 1:1 mentorship with Mastercard advisors. This personalized guidance adds a unique dimension to the competition, granting winners a chance to gain insights from industry experts.
This collaboration injected excitement into the semester, providing members with a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Nova Case Team looks forward to more enriching collaborations, bridging the gap between academia and the professional world.
Learning Session with EY
Nova Case Team collaborated with EY for an event featuring a presentation and workshop by EY-Parthenon, known for strategic advisory excellence.
The session began with a detailed presentation on strategic problem-solving and EY-Parthenon's methodologies. Participants engaged in a hands-on workshop, applying strategic thinking to a real case study. The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, allowing direct engagement with EY-Parthenon professionals.
This collaboration provided participants with a deeper understanding of strategic problem-solving, insights into consulting, and practical experience in addressing real-world business challenges.
Meeting Ageas
NCT recently partnered with Ageas for an engaging event. The session started with a talk featuring four inspiring Ageas professionals, providing valuable insights into their roles and the company's values.
Following the presentation, NCT members participated in an interactive Q&A session, delving deeper into the insurance industry. The highlight of the day was an exclusive tour of Ageas headquarters, offering a firsthand look at the company's operations and history.
The event concluded with a social gathering, where participants enjoyed appetizers and had the chance to connect with the Ageas team in a relaxed setting. This collaborative initiative proved to be both informative and enjoyable, fostering a sense of camaraderie and knowledge-sharing between NCT members and Ageas professionals.
BCG Case Competition
In April of 2020, Nova Case Team hosted a Case Solving Competition in partnership with the Boston Consulting Group, a management consulting company. 8 teams were given the task of analyzing whether the animal health division of a healthcare company should acquire a portfolio of assets of a different company that had to divest due to regulatory concerns. The case study had in-depth financial and strategic information, so the students were given the task of performing a DCF analysis and a valuation with multiples, in order to recommend the bidding price for the portfolio.
On the 10th of April of 2020, the teams had 9 hours to solve the case and prepare a presentation with their final recommendations. Nova Case Team’s members provided help throughout the day, answering questions and helping with organization and time management, when necessary. At the end of the day, the teams presented to a jury of three: Professor Fábio Santos (Finance), Professor Benoit Decreton (Advanced Strategy) and Bernardo Vedor (NCT’s current President), who selected the top 3 teams, based on the accuracy of the financial analysis, strategical reasoning and the quality of the presentation.
On the 13th of April, the best 3 teams in the first round presented to a team of BCG Consultants: Luís Figueiredo (Project Leader), Luís Sacadura (Project Leader) and Miguel Garção (Associate), who eventually decided on the winning team, “4uarteto”, composed by 4 MSc in Management students: Bernardo Salvador, Cristiana Stephani, Diogo Marques and Mariana Figueiras. The winning prize is a dinner with BCG members, hopefully soon, lockdown-measures allowing.
Both Nova professors and the BCG consultants were highly impressed with the quality of the teams’ presentations, showing once again the high level of quality of Nova SBE’s students. We would like to thank once again all teams for participating: it was a great experience organizing this competition.
